Sarah McLeod is a New Zealand actress and singer best known for playing Rosie Cotton, Samwise Gamgee’s sweetheart and eventual wife, in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy, appearing most memorably in the trilogy’s emotional closing scenes in The Return of the King. Though her role was relatively brief across the films, Rosie Cotton’s presence provided an important emotional anchor for Samwise’s eventual return home from his long and dangerous journey, and the character’s wedding and family scenes became a beloved part of the trilogy’s bittersweet conclusion.
McLeod’s own daughter, Maisy McLeod-Riera, appeared alongside her on screen as Baby Gamgee in the same closing scenes, adding a genuine real-life family connection to the on-screen Gamgee family.
