Shane Rangi is a New Zealand actor, stunt performer, and creature specialist of Ngāti Porou descent whose extensive physical performance work spans Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies. He performed stunts and worked as a standby armour and weapons technician across The Lord of the Rings, appearing in uncredited roles including the Witch-king of Angmar in The Fellowship of the Ring and one of the Haradrim warriors in The Return of the King.
His work continued into The Hobbit trilogy, where he portrayed a Goblin, an Orc, and a Laketown refugee across its three films, alongside further motion-capture and stunt contributions throughout the production.
Rangi has earned two Screen Actors Guild Award nominations for Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble, recognising the calibre of his physical performance work, and has spent nineteen years as a core member of Weta Digital.
His deep and sustained involvement in bringing Middle-earth’s creatures and battle sequences to life across six films has made him one of the most respected stunt and creature performers associated with the franchise, and a valued figure among collectors interested in its extensive behind-the-scenes physical performance work.
