Peter Serafinowicz is an English actor, comedian, and voice artist best known for providing the voice of Darth Maul, the menacing double-bladed lightsaber-wielding Sith apprentice, in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, working alongside martial artist Ray Park, who performed the character physically. The pairing of Serafinowicz’s voice with Park’s physical performance created one of the prequel trilogy’s most memorable villains, despite the character’s relatively limited screen time in the original film.
Serafinowicz has built a substantial career in British comedy, co-creating and starring in the cult sketch series The Peter Serafinowicz Show, and appearing in the horror-comedy Shaun of the Dead. He also voiced Denarian Saal in Guardians of the Galaxy, adding a further Marvel Cinematic Universe credit to his voice work.
His distinctive vocal talents have made him a sought-after voice actor across animation, video games, and film, in addition to his live-action comedy career. Serafinowicz’s contribution to Darth Maul’s creation, alongside Ray Park, has made the character one of Star Wars’ most enduringly popular villains among collectors and fans of the prequel trilogy.
