Peter Tait is a New Zealand actor and director who played dual roles within Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, portraying both Shagrat, an Orc captain who briefly holds Frodo captive in Cirith Ungol, and a Corsair of Umbar, whose scenes were ultimately reserved for the film’s Extended Edition. His work on the trilogy reflects the extensive doubling of roles common among New Zealand-based performers during the production’s demanding, multi-year shooting schedule.
Tait later appeared as the character Man Tredwill in Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, extending his connection to Middle-earth into the franchise’s more recent television expansion set thousands of years before the original trilogy’s events. Beyond his acting career, Tait has written, directed, and starred in his own independent film projects, including the low-budget feature Back River Road, which received a Nokia New Zealand Film Award nomination.
