About Miranda Otto

Miranda Otto is an Australian actress best known for playing Éowyn, the Shieldmaiden of Rohan who defies convention to fight in battle and ultimately defeats the Witch-king of Angmar, in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Otto’s performance, particularly her delivery of the line “I am no man” during the climactic Battle of the Pelennor Fields, became one of the trilogy’s most celebrated and quoted moments, cementing Éowyn’s status as one of fantasy cinema’s most significant female warriors.

Otto returned to the role in 2024, both voicing Éowyn and serving as the narrator for the animated prequel film The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, extending her connection to Middle-earth two decades after the original trilogy’s release.

Beyond Lord of the Rings, Otto has built a substantial career across film and television, including a leading role in the long-running series Homeland. Her enduring, multi-generational connection to one of cinema’s most beloved fantasy franchises, spanning both the original trilogy and its more recent animated expansion, has made her a hugely popular figure among Lord of the Rings collectors and fans.
