Anthony Daniels is a British actor who has portrayed the golden protocol droid C-3PO in every Star Wars film since the franchise began in 1977, making him the only actor to appear in all nine mainline saga films as well as multiple spin-offs, animated series, and video games. Trained at Wellington College and RADA, Daniels was working in British theatre when he was cast by George Lucas after an unconventional audition centred on movement rather than dialogue, given the character’s mechanical physicality.
His performance, combining physical work inside the costume with his own distinctive vocal delivery, made C-3PO one of the most beloved and enduring characters in science fiction. Daniels has remained closely tied to the character and franchise for nearly five decades, providing his voice for Star Wars: The Clone Wars and numerous other animated projects, as well as writing a memoir, I Am C-3PO: The Inside Story, reflecting on his decades in the role.
He continues to be one of the most sought-after guests on the global convention circuit, where his firsthand stories from the making of the original trilogy through to the sequel films draw devoted crowds of fans eager to hear from cinema’s most famous droid.
