About Matt Sloan

Matt Sloan is an Australian former special effects and animatronics technician who portrayed the Jedi Master Plo Koon in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, appearing in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones and Episode III – Revenge of the Sith as part of the Jedi Council ensemble. His work on the prequel trilogy came through Lucasfilm’s extensive use of skilled technicians and performers to bring the Jedi Council’s diverse alien membership to life through prosthetics, costuming, and physical performance.

Plo Koon, distinguished by his breathing apparatus and antenna-like features, became one of the more visually distinctive members of the Jedi Council depicted across the prequel films, and has since developed a significant following through expanded appearances in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and other canon material.

Sloan’s background in special effects and animatronics gave him a particular understanding of working within elaborate practical costuming, a skill well suited to the demands of playing a heavily prosthetic alien character.

His contribution to one of the Jedi Council’s more enduringly popular members has made him a recognised figure among collectors interested in the prequel trilogy’s extensive alien Jedi ensemble.
